Hal is the Chief Investment Officer of Durbin Bennett Peterson with 25 years of investment management experience. Prior to co-founding DBP, he was the senior investment officer for the Bank of America Private Bank in Austin, Texas. In that role, he was responsible for the management of $1.3 billion in client assets. His career began with the Wall Street firm Kidder, Peabody & Co. where he spent several years in both Denver and Seattle. Hal moved to Texas in 1989 to manage the Trust Investment Group for First City Texas, where he managed assets for private clients, institutions, and tax-exempt organizations. In 1994 he joined NationsBank and became the senior investment officer for the Private Client Group in Austin. Hal has been active in the community by serving on the boards of several organizations including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin and the Austin Parks Foundation. Hal is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the Austin Community Foundation and serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee. Hal is also a Director of the Tarrytown United Methodist Endowment and is an elected member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Endowment Investment Committee serving a three year term. He is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA), The CFA Institute and the Austin Society of Financial Analysts. Hal is the adjunct instructor of investments in the University of Texas at Austin Professional Development Program. Hal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Colorado State University, and holds the designation Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA).

Brent has over twenty-five years of experience advising affluent individuals, their families, and related business enterprises. He is a frequent speaker on financial planning, investment portfolio structuring, and taxation issues. Most recently, Brent has participated as a guest speaker for the TSCPA Texas State Tax Institute held annually in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio on investment advisory, portfolio design, asset allocation, financial planning, and current tax planning related topics. He has also served as an instructor for national tax training courses for two international accounting firms. Brent is co-founder and partner of DBP. Prior to forming the Firm with Richard Bennett in 1987, Brent was with Price Waterhouse Coopers (formerly Coopers & Lybrand) in Austin and KPMG Peat Marwick in El Paso, Texas. Brent holds a Masters of Science in Taxation degree from Texas Tech University. Brent is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants(CPA), the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the International Board of Certified Financial Planners, and is a past Secretary/Treasurer of the 450 member Rotary Club of Austin. He is a former Board Member of Good Shepherd Episcopal School and is currently a member of the Professional Advisory Council at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.

Richard has over twenty-five years of experience working with affluent individuals, families and their closely held entities and serves as Strategic Planning Partner of Durbin Bennett Peterson. Richard graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and prior to co-founding Durbin Bennett Peterson in 1987 was a manager in the tax section of the Austin office of Price Waterhouse Coopers, serving as Director of Financial Planning Services. Richard is a Certified Financial Planner, Certified Public Accountant, Personal Financial Specialist. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Public Accountants, the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas and the International Board of Certified Financial Planners. Richard serves in a variety of community and professional activities and is currently serving on the boards of the Austin Ballet and Girls Empowerment Network.

Jon has over thirty years of tax experience working with high net worth individuals. His specialized areas of expertise include the strategic implementation and subsequent maintenance of trusts, private foundations, family limited partnerships and other closely held business entities. Jon is accustomed to working in tandem with attorneys and other professionals to bring creative ideas and practical tax strategies for the benefit of the client. Jon’s professional background before joining Durbin Bennett Peterson was spent with Ernst & Young where his twenty-six year career included being a Partner and Director of Tax for the offices located in Austin and Louisville, Kentucky. Jon was selected by the DBP partners to lead the firm’s Tax Department as its Tax Practice Director. Jon has his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Texas Tech University and his Law Degree from the University of Texas Law School. Professional affiliations and memberships include being a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Travis County Bar Association, the Texas Society of CPAs and the Austin Chapter of CPAs. Jon is a former president of the Austin Chapter of CPAs.

Matthew P. Jachimiak, CFA®, CAIA®, MBA

As a Portfolio Manager, Matt’s primary responsibilities include securities analysis, money manager research and evaluation, asset allocation modeling, financial markets research, hedge fund and other alternative strategy research, analysis and evaluation. Matt meets regularly with clients to provide investment advice and counsel. Prior to joining DBP, Matt attended the UT McCombs School of Business and earned an MBA with a concentration in finance. While at UT Matt was among an elite group of students selected as Portfolio Managers for the MBA Investment Fund. Prior to earning his MBA Matt worked for Enron Corp. in the Analyst/Associate Program. His work experience includes both public and private equity research and analysis. Matt also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. Matt is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder, holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation and is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association.

Stephanie has over twenty years of public and industry accounting and management experience. Her focus is specialized tax and advisory services, serving the needs of affluent individuals, their families and related business, planning and philanthropic entities. Prior to joining the firm, Stephanie provided integrated tax, financial planning and investment management services as founder and partner of her own CPA and registered investment advisor firms. She began her career with KPMG Peat Marwick in Dallas, Texas. Later she became controller of a movie production company in Dallas and then assumed divisional controller responsibilities for the largest private homebuilder in the United States. Stephanie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin. She is active in various business, professional and civic groups and serves as Treasurer for the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and President of the McCallum High School and Fine Arts Academy Band Parents Association. She formerly served on the Board of Good Shepherd Episcopal School.

As a Senior Advisor, Paul works closely with our clients and collaborates with their advisors to provide integrated wealth management advice and counsel to create custom solutions to best achieve their goals and objectives. Prior to joining our firm, Paul was with Bernstein Investment Research and Management, as an Investment Planning Analyst. In this role, Paul acted as a liaison between his clients and their professional advisors to develop high level investment strategies to solve complex wealth management issues with a primary focus on Financial Planning. Paul has a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas. Paul is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and a member of the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas.

As a Senior Advisor, Sara works closely with clients to provide integrated wealth management advice. Collaborating with a client’s team of advisors, Sara oversees the implementation of customized investment solutions for our clients. Prior to joining DBP, Sara was a founding member of WaterStreet Investment Consultants, an institutional investment consulting firm managing over $2 billion. As Senior Investment Consultant and Director of Research, Sara consulted with clients on investment policy, asset allocation, and investment manager selection. She also led the firm’s Investment Committee responsible for investment manager due diligence and capital markets research. Sara began her investment career at Smith Barney as an analyst in the Institutional Consulting Group. She graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. Sara is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder, is a member of the Board of Directors for the CFA Society of Austin, and is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association.

Josh works closely with clients to create tailored investment strategies, design customized solutions, and to provide integrated wealth management advice.

Prior to joining DBP, Josh managed financial and strategic operations and directed M&A for Lucas Petroleum Group, Inc. as the Chief Financial Officer. While at LPG, he co-founded LPG Capital LLC to facilitate cooperative investments in new energy ventures. Josh also oversaw the allocation and investments of the firm’s associated philanthropic initiative, the Educational Advancement Foundation as Senior Portfolio Manager. During this time, Josh co-authored several studies with colleagues from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas, and the Federal Reserve. Before serving in an executive capacity, Josh was a Portfolio Manager for Munday Enterprises, an Austin-based family office, where he ran the proprietary trading group.

Josh holds an MBA with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School with a double major in Finance and Strategic Management. He earned a BA with high and special honors in the Plan II Honors Program and a BBA with honors in Finance from the University of Texas. Josh is a Level III Candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst Program.

Josh is active in the philanthropic community, serving on the Due Diligence Committee of Innovation +, a non-profit organization that applies the growth equity model to distribute social capital. Further, Josh is a member of the Texas Hedge Fund Association and serves on the Awards Committee for The Association for Corporate Growth. He is also a regular contributor to the Austin Entrepreneurial Network and lectures on finance and entrepreneurship at the Austin Center for Design.

April serves clients of Durbin Bennett Peterson | Private Wealth Management, L.L.P. as a Wealth Management Specialist. Her primary role is customer service. Previously, April was the Controller at Lakeside Capital Partners, a family office management company in Dallas that provides accounting, tax, and wealth management services to affluent individuals and families. April played an integral role in establishing the infrastructure of Lakeside. She had many responsibilities, but focused primarily on financial reporting and cash management issues for multiple individuals and family owned entities. She was also instrumental in researching and developing standard procedures to account for numerous private equity investments. Prior to joining Lakeside Capital Partners, April was an audit senior in the Dallas office of Ernst & Young, LLP, where she specialized in the financial services and technology industries. April graduated cum laude from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.

Damian serves the clients of Durbin Bennett Peterson | Private Wealth Management, L.L.P. as a Wealth Management Associate. Before joining DBP, Damian was with Altegris Investments in La Jolla, CA; a firm that specializes in alternative investments including hedge funds and managed future strategies. While there, he managed back-office operations and client services. Prior to joining Altegris Investments, Damian was a registered representative for Scudder Mutual Funds in San Diego California, after attending San Diego State University.
